Magma’s foundry partnership program enables collaboration between process technology supplier and Magma’s engineering team to offer a close link between the Magma tools and the various process technologies for use in the Customer Owned Tooling (COT) environment. Magma collaborates with the MagmaTies foundry partners in the following areas:

Technology file correlation and validation using industry gold standard QuickCap NX
Reference methodology development
Advanced technology exchange and collaboration in areas such as DFM and chip performance optimization
The benefit to our mutual customer is that the combined foundry process and EDA tool solution is pre-qualified for use thus enabling the fastest ramp to design productivity.

Volcano Design Kits and Technology Files Support

Magma and TSMC have been working together to ensure that our mutual customers get the latest Magma volcano design kits, RC technology files and DRC/LVS rule decks. The volcano design kit contains two volcano elements: TSMC library volcano and technology volcano. The technology volcano contains the m-tcl files for design rules, EM rules, Antenna rules & GDS layer mapping rules generation.

At the heart of the Common Platform technology relationship is the bulk CMOS process technology that is jointly developed by IBM, Chartered, and Samsung. The group began with joint development at the 90nm process node and has extended the joint development to 65nm, 45nm and 32nm processes. The added benefit is the process compatibility across 3 different fabs. Designs qualified and manufactured at one Common Platform fab can easily be sourced to another, and migration to next-generation nodes is also simplified. In addition to the three Common Platform partners, Infineon, Freescale, STMicroelectronics and Toshiba also joined the Joint process Development Alliance (JDA), but the process compatibility is still among the 3 Common Platform fabs. As a result of the involvement of IDMs, systems companies, and foundries, the jointly developed processes bring a new level of system and application understanding to the silicon process.
