Guest Keynote:“3D Integrated Circuits: New Directions for Semiconductors,” Tezzaron Semiconductor CEO Keynote:“The Electronic Ocean,” MagmaPanel“Semiconductor Venture Funding – At a Crossroads?,” Farallon Advisors, Intel Capital, Pillsbury, U.S. Venture Partners
3D Integrated Circuits: New Directions for Semiconductors Presenter: Robert Patti, CTO and vice president of Design Engineering, Tezzaron Semiconductor 3D integration is widely viewed as a way to extend Moore’s Law as scaling slows and physical and economic limits are looming. The presentation will review current 3D technologies, how they are implemented and the design challenges they present. Key points touched on in presentation will be:
Biography: Robert Patti founded and was President of ASIC Designs, Inc. which is the company Tezzaron Semiconductor was built on. Prior to that, he was a member of the technical staff of Tellabs, Inc., a member of IEEE, and vice chairman of JEDEC's DDRIII/Future Memories Task Group. He holds 14 US patents, numerous foreign patents and many more pending patent applications in deep sub-micron semiconductor chip technologies. He holds bachelor’s of science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Physics from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
The Electronic Ocean Presenter: Rajeev Madhavan, CEO, Magma The line between analog and digital design is rapidly disappearing as the market for advanced communications, computing and network devices explodes. This “electronic ocean” of mixed-signal functionality marks the beginning of the era of the mixed-signal SoC. Anticipating this trend, Magma embarked on a development effort to bring to market the tools that would be needed to drive the design and implementation of mixed-signal SoCs. The company realized a need to provide best-in-class point-tool solutions that could augment existing flows to solve key design problems in addition to providing full flow solutions. We will cover several of these new best-in-class tools during the keynote. The transition is now complete – Magma is now well-positioned as a leading supplier of mixed-signal SoC design solutions. Biography: Rajeev Madhavan has served as Magma's Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors since he co-founded the company in 1997, and also served as president until 2001. Madhavan presently serves on the board of directors for the Electronic Design Automation Consortium. Prior to founding Magma, he co-founded and served as President and CEO of Ambit Design Systems, Inc. and co-founded and served as Director of Engineering of LogicVision, Inc. Madhavan received a bachelor's degree in electronics and communication from KREC, Surathkal, India, and a master's degree in electrical engineering from Queen's University, Ontario, Canada.
Semiconductor Venture Funding – At a Crossroads? This panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities in raising funding for startup semiconductor companies. This moderated panel discussion will feature partners from local venture capital firms who will offer their views on the topic and then take questions from the audience. Given that complex SoC chip design projects can cost upwards of $100 million this promises to be an interesting discussion. Moderator: Jorge A. del Calvo, Partner, Pillsbury Panelists:
Jorge A. del Calvo Partner Pillsbury Jorge del Calvo focuses on the representation of public and private technology companies in mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, private placements and joint ventures, investment banks in equity, debt and other transactions, and venture and private equity funds in their formation and investments.
